Summer Math 2024

Students entering grade 6 for the 2024-2025 school year:

  • Paper-based

  • Given out during last week of school from current teacher

  • Students who will be in 6-2 (on-level) math are expected to complete at least 4 problems per page.

  • Students who will be in 6-1 (above level) math are expected to complete all problems.

  • Students will be given a due date to submit the packet within the first week of school.

  • Graded for completion (shown separately on report card), but accuracy is important.

  • Data will be used to determine possible intervention groups in the Fall.

Students entering grades 7 and 8 for the 2024-2025 school year:

  • Students will access summer math online using the site Delta Math, which has videos and examples embedded to support students.

  • Students will complete an assignment based on the level they are scheduled to be in for math in the fall.

  • Assignments will be posted at the end of the day on June 12th.

  • It is suggested that students spend approximately 1 hour per week throughout the summer.

  • Students should be enrolled in the Delta Math class before summer begins, but the information will be posted on the WMS grade-based google classrooms all summer.

  • Graded for completion (shown separately on report card), but accuracy is important.

  • Data will be used to determine possible intervention groups in the Fall.

*We are hoping to offer Google Meet support sessions throughout the summer like we offered last summer. More information will be posted in the Google Classrooms when available.*

Students entering grade 9 for the 2024-2025 school year:

  • Students will access summer math online using the site Delta Math.

  • Students will complete an assignment based on the level they are scheduled to be in for math in the fall.

  • Assignments will be posted at the end of the day on June 12th.

  • Students should be enrolled in the Delta Math class before summer begins, but the information will be posted on the JMS or BMS grade-based google classrooms all summer.

  • Completion of the work is worth 1/2 credit toward graduation and does impact honor roll eligibility during term 1. Each year, students can receive 1/2 a credit (general credit, not a math credit) toward graduation.  Over the course of 4 years, between reading and math, they can accumulate 4 credits.  For reference, a full year course is 5 credits.  Typically, this will not make or break the ability to graduate.

  • For students to be eligible for Honor Roll in term 1, they must maintain appropriate grades AND complete both summer reading and summer math.  The DeltaMath is set up to show completion percentage by mastery (they have to get x number correct at each skill), so they know when they are done.  Summer work does not impact Honor Roll terms 2-4.

  • It is suggested that students spend approximately 1 hour per week throughout the summer.

  • One final reminder - the purpose is to keep prior skills fresh so there is limited need for review next year and the focus can be on the content for that grade/course.
