On behalf of the  Walpole School Committee, I am pleased to announce that the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA)  has accepted the Walpole School District’s  Statement of  Interest for Bird Middle School into MSBA's Eligibility Period. The invitation includes consideration of Johnson Middle School for potential consolidation of all students in grades 6-8 (only).
For the past three years, the WPS have submitted statements of interest for Bird, Johnson and the High School in hopes of being invited into their program and gaining access to tens of millions of dollars in state funds for possible renovation and or new construction of our schools.

The MSBA is overseen by the Office of the State Treasurer and funded by one penny on the dollar of the State Sales tax. MSBA  works with communities to address their school building needs. The MSBA partnership oversees the process of school repair, renovation,  or construction from concept through completion. They evaluated 70  Statements of  Interest from across the state and invited 12 with the most demonstrable need.

Successful completion of the Eligibility Period will allow the Town to be eligible for the next step which is an invitation to the Feasibility Study phase. This process will include the creation of a  local  School Building  Committee comprised of members of the School Committee, Board of Selectman, finance officials, school administrators, town administrators, and community members with architecture, engineering and construction experience. A long-term enrollment study will be undertaken, and a maintenance plan submitted.
The School Committee and School Leadership team are very grateful to begin this process with the MSBA and for the foresight and support given by the Board of Selectmen and Town meeting. As we continue through this process we will continue to provide information to the community through regular School Committee Meetings,  Facebook, a dedicated web page, Enotes, and social media.

Sincerely,

William J. Buckley, Jr.
School Committee Chair
